Computer Security
Please be aware that there are many computer viruses circulating on the internet and most of them don't get a lot of publicity.
If you don't have good up to date virus protection software installed on your computer you are definitely vulnerable. Get some antivirus software and keep it up to date!
Check out some of these web pages that address viruses and other computer security issues:
- Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT)
- This organization was formed in 1988 to serve as a focal point for the computer security concerns of Internet users. They are professionals,
and can provide authoritative information about real computer viruses and hacking.
- Computer Incident Advisory Center (CIAC)
- CIAC provides on-call technical assistance and information to Department
of Energy (DOE) computer sites faced with computer security incidents.
- MIT Information Technology Security Page
- The Informations Systems and Technology department at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
maintains this page to help members of the MIT community with computer security issues. You can look at
all of the information, but you won't be able to download any of the anti-virus software because it's for
MIT use only (sorry).
- National Infrastructure Protection Center
- Located in the FBI's headquarters building in Washington, D.C., the NIPC brings together
representatives from the FBI, other U.S. government agencies, state and local governments, and the
private sector in a partnership to protect our nation's critical infrastructures.
- Symantec AntiVirus Research
Center
- This is a web site maintained by Symantec, a producer of various desktop softwareproducts
(including antivirus software).
- U.S. Department of Energy Computer Incident Advisory
Capability (CIAC)
- CIAC provides on-call technical assistance and information to Department of Energy (DOE) computer
